Possible delays with cata?

I intend to pick up wow (again) on cataclysm's release, but since 2009, all they have said is 2010. People were hoping for an early/mid 2010 release and have been disappointed. Seems more likely than likely it may be pushed into 2011. We've had beta for so long, and still no news or confirmation of a date? I'm HOPING its a Christmas or New Years day release.

Discuss :D
Also, people in the beta, they probably won't track you here. Nothing I love more than an NDA breaker :D

Forum moderators here also frown on breaking NDAs. Especially when some of us have signed Blizzard NDA forms before.

You saying that on a Christian forum is funny.

Blizzard has always released everything associated with WoW around Thanksgiving. That's when everyone is expecting it.

Being a WoW hater you can ignore most of what I say about the game, but with the latest beta build the whole game pretty much broke, and looks no where near done...I would be surprised if it is out by the end of the year... :p

Waiting for Cataclysm? Give FF14 a try, it launches in mere days, friends.

/used the word "mere"

Ah well so looks like some people still respect blizz even after all they have done. But that is up for debate. I will forever hold this quote against them "one of the things we enjoy doing here at blizzard (to new people) is to take the fun out of making games". Maybe I'm taking it a little out of context but can you imagine a context where this actually is a good thing?
I sort of lost ALL respect for them as game devs, as a studio, and even the CEO and boardroom staff as people. To them, we're not fans or players, just numbers. But to me (you are entitled to your own view so don't bash), they may be horrible horrible people, but they release REALLY POLISHED games. Wouldn't say necessarily good, but polished. Theres 1000 ways WoW can be improved. I don't like boardroom staff, but the game is good, and the CEO and execs have almost nothing to do with development itself.

Lets hope it comes this year...

If you want to support a developer that produces high a high quality product, loves their game, and actually care about their customers (even if they do occasionally troll/spam around on the forums on occasion :p) to the point of establishing a player elected and run Council to bring game related issues to attention, look no further than CCP and EVE Online.

People like to talk about how 'terrible' a company and its policies are (namely Blizz/Activision) but if they keep producing stuff like SCII and WotLK, I would be perfectly ok with them coming out and telling us they hate our guts and would rather develop business software but won't because there's more money in video games...

Also, I thought the Cataclysm NDA was lifted?

I love eve!!! In fact we've just moved to 0.0 (after being pwnt out of that). Now that is a studio I look up to, and will continue to respect them as they don't hide behind a veil of secrecy and NDAs like Blizzard does. Sure there are NDAs in eve, but we all know the market is going to go crazy if not. And they are a lot more in touch with their community. I hope WoW falls, and horribly, but not horrible enough to die. Just hard enough to wake them up and make their game better. They are getting fat and complacent.

Sadly, like you said, as long as they keep pushing out great games, I will continue to support them, however grudgingly.

what's your character name? (I'm Elader naturally :P)

I was out in 0.0 for a while with Talos Alliance, but left and created my own one man corp so I could get my standings up to lvl 4 R&D agents. Once I'm done with that a few college friends invited me into a C5 WH to do their the PI stuff for the POS (since I'm the only one of them that actually enjoys working out the chains for it).

Also ToJ had a corp that is currently inaccessible unless the old CEO signs on, but their public chat channel TribeJ is still open and I hang out there just in case anyone signs on.

The level and specifics of Activision's influence on Blizzard remains a matter of speculation except to those immediately in the know (and, to my knowledge, they aren't discussing the details with the public).

And while there may be room for improvement in WoW, remember that the game released in 2004. If elements of the game's design seem dated, that's because they may be 6 years old. As a casual observer, it seems the purpose of Cataclysm is to take the most dated parts of the game world and update the gameplay design for those areas to more closely resemble areas introduced in expansion packs.

In short, Cataclysm could address many of the reasons why players left WoW and moved on to other games.

But even if Cataclysm meets and exceeds the game designer's goals, WoW's engine and framework was introduced 6 years ago. There's only so much you can do with an expansion pack. To do something truly innovative, you often have to start with a clean slate.

And that may very well be what Blizzard may be doing: Blizzard revealed in December 2007 that they were working on a next-generation MMO.

While I have my own beef with Activision as a long-time PC gamer, I can't argue with results. And Blizzard delivers results.

Do I still think Bobby Kotick is poison to the games industry? Long-term, yes.

I think we need guild stuff, like that little room they said would come... eventually... announced 6 years back.
What we need is player owned stuff, like DDO's airships. The aim isn't to make Eve on land, but just to have some things guilds can work towards.

Also, sorry if this hurts anyone but I don't know if a Christian EvE guild will do very well, because there are a lot of haters there. May get wardec'd upside down. Games like WoW, SC2 where there is no such mechanic is good, but EvE, I don't know. In fact I try not to say me eve name out of game because well... paranoid :D
Adding you in game. I'll send a mail saying who I am :P

I sent you an eve mail in game, reply with TOJ if its you :D

Sorry was that Elader or Elader Arkon? I sent a mail to Elader, Elader Arkon is in an NPC corp which I assume to be your alt.

Elader Arkon was actually my original trial account, but I lost/forgot the info when I subscribed some months later...

Ah ok. Got ya reply in game, all's good :D

Now, I'm really hoping cata comes out soon... one thing I hated about WoW was never being able to finish quests in a timely fashion, where to go and so on. When they are streamlined, I'll go for it!

I don't personally know any of the Blizzard staff, so I can't speak to their character or motives, but I've enjoyed their game for over three years and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon!

Really looking forward to Cataclysm - December 7th!

The game is good. Everyone else is good. Except the corporate side is terrible.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Activision runs its dev studio under sweatshop conditions. There should be fairtrade certified games, but seriously, if everyone is playing it, you want in on the action. A one man boycott ain't gona do anything.

Except protect that one man's soul. :):)
