Prayer Request

Hey guys, I would love some prayer for peace today with a problem that I have to fix, that I created in my hastiness..

Some history.. I do side work as a contractor for an old boss, after-hours support for a small linux network for one of his customers. We have been having issues with linux machine that they are using as their subversion server, and this past week I had gotten everything buttoned up, and it was running really well. The time that it took to get it stable was too long in their eyes, so there is already some doubt that I know what I am doing in their minds, but I have been trying to make that go away.

Im afraid what happened today, may push it over the edge, and I will lose this contract. Its not much, only a couple hundred dollars a month, but its been nice being able to have some play money, and that is not actually what I am worried about losing.. What did I do you ask? Any *Nix users? :p

I got a report this morning that a user wasn't able to check in some code into subversion, and the error they were getting looked like a drive was full. Well, I logged in this morning to look at it, and and sure enough, the directory that I have mounted to a Windows Backup server was not mounted, and when the backup ran it filled up the drive. I was going to remove the backups that were taken, remount the directory, and then reschedule the backup to run tonight. Well, in my hastiness to fix such an easy issue, I ran the command: [root@linux /]$ rm -rf * thinking I was in the svn_backups directory. Well, I wasn't, and by the time I realized it, I was kicked from the server, and of course, cannot log back in. That command, and the directory I ran it in, basically deleted everything.

Sorry for the long post, but I had to get it all out there, and it actually helped calm me down a little bit. I was literally sick to my stomach when I realized what I had done. I have of course let them know what I did, but havent heard back from them yet. I plan on going over there right as soon as I get off of work, and rebuilding the machine, and starting over..

Thanks for reading, if you got this far, and for the prayers. Ill update tomorrow on how things went.. :)

Thanks for the prayers guys :)

After taking too many hours trying to recover data, I just gave up and started re-installing the machine. As soon as I got it installed, the internet went down in the building, and was down for a couple hours. Once it came back up, I got everything installed, and started restoring the backups of the repositories, and finally left around 1:15AM. After an hour drive home, I finally got to bed at 2:30AM.

Then to top if off, today, the datacenter that hosts our production network goes down, and has been down.. What a fun week this has been so far... :)
