Is it faster than Cable/DSL?
What do you need to get Broadband?
Does it require a router?

Broadband is DSL OR CABLE.

you need the modem to use the service (you can usually buy/rent it from the ISP company)

you only need a router if you are going to set up a home-network

why is it seperately, split up, cable/dsl : 56k/broadband?

by the way, I referred broadband from Playstations 2 Adapter that said it has broadband which seem odd for a game console.

broadband might just be a network jack so you can hook it up to a home network with cable/dsl

Broadband is a general term referring to all fast internet. It includes dsl and cable. There are some that are faster, but are usually too expensive to use personally.

Broadband is anything faster then Dial up otherwise refered to as NarrowBand. While most broadband is sweet for gaming like DSL or Cable others such as Satalite are worse then Dial up. To find out what services are avialble in your area check out dslreports

i think isdn lines are 128
dsl can range from 256/512/1500
not sure on cable speeds as we don't have access to it in the Northern Territory.

I also believe that with adsl once you have it your speed doesn't change, just how much you can access at a time. So if you ping is 40 with 256 it won't necessarily get faster with a 512 line. but if you are leeching big files or you are playing games with a huge demand, then it is able to send more packets. which for gaming may mean increased performance.

Funny how you mention that, Sealcomm. I'd always pick ISDN cause there is no Cable option as a Cable user. And my ping is 110 with a cable modem.

And I went to Dslreports.com, registered there anyhow, I have a sloppy (I think), 1400 down-load and 90 up-load. Let me double check again...

I've been ranked Worse of the average worse, 33.0ms, rank 103.

Down-load; 1729 kbps
Up-load; 464 kbps
Transfer rate speed; 216.1KB

And thats stupid since every download I do, I get 160 KB Transfer rate.

I don't believe it, finally in 3 years as a Cable user, I get 216.1KB and higher.

I went to Download Halo 2 movie, at 267KB in 7 mins!!! First time ever!!! which I doubt it will last, stupid cable.

Make sure there are plenty of magnets around your line; it always seems to boost performance.  If you don't have magnets it's always a good thing to at least make sure your line is made of wood.  Also, it doesn't hurt if your computer runs on gasoline, grade 89 regular, if possible.

btw - I get the absolute highest ping in all of the games, and no one has yet to beat me.

14,998 was my highest in ToJ CS 1.6 with lag spike. Beat you can't beat that.
