The forums have been going offline from time to time...it turns out the old server didn't seem to have enough memory to operate properly. I have moved the forums to a new server with more ram. Right now ram usage has dropped form 100 percent physical and 100 percent virtual to zero virtual and 35 percent physical. Those are much better numbers and i will monitor things to make sure they stay stable. Sorry for the issues and i am hoping this fixes the issues. If you have any questions just let me know here.
 
just as an aside. now on the new server here's the traffic: Total: 1,955 (members: 2, guests: 1,953)

That was crushing the old server. The new one is handling this load just fine....:)
 
just had a spike to 2667 users..most of them bots. Xenforo is some awe3some software..jsut needed more ram and the new server is chewing through this without an issue..just needed more ram..:)
 
Oh wow, the bots are swarming the forums. We're up to nearly 6,000 bots. I updated the permissions for the Unregistered / Unconfirmed user group to not allow guests to view member profiles or search the forums. Let's see if that calms things down.

we are up to 10k now...LOL they are throwing a tantrum because they cannot get in...but the load on the server has actually dropped a bit...if it gets stupid i will look into country blocking at the firewall.
 
yeppers down to 500 now..seems to be the sweet spot..so it turns out it was a simple bot swarm ddos....a beefier server that can handle the swarm and a quick change on the back3nd of the forums and the swarm is now under control
