Safe to place a chipset fan on a CPU heatsink?

I purchased a 60mm fan from a local computer shop in hopes that I could get my system back up and running today. It didn't work.

While digging through my spare computer parts, I found an old Thermaltake chipset heatsink and fan that I'd never used. I managed to fix the heatsink and fan to the CPU heatsink; I plugged in the fan, powered up the computer, and everything works A-OK.

My question is: Is this a safe configuration? I plan to purchase a retail CPU heatsink and fan online, but should I run this PC in its current configuration or replace the old CPU fan for the time being?

as long as it fits perfectly over the CPU and the heat sink is pretty big and the fan is pretty big too you should have no problems.

I purchased a new heatsink and fan from a local computer shop (not the same shop where I purchased the 60mm fan), installed it, and it works just fine. :D

which cpu do you ahve and which model thermaltake is it?
The processor is an AMD Athlon 1GHz; the Thermaltake heatsink and fan referenced was the Chipset Blue Orb model. I've since purchased a new heatsink and fan and replaced the Thermaltake model.
