Shadow Priests Help

Hey all - I didn't see a class/help section so I've posted this in general

Tornadedo went with a priest so she could help others, but right now is focusing on shadow. I am new to the class, so it is tough for me to assist her. I have read some articles on shadow priests, but I am having issues locating decent information for starting out, as well as what to do around 80. Does anyone have any reliable links?

Right now she is having some pretty serious DPS problems, averaging around 15-19dps along side others her level in instances going for 50-70. (We are level 22 and 23) Typically I wouldn't care so much, but thats a pretty big gap.

Is this the norm of an early shadow priest? She is stacking her dots early in rotation, and mind blasting/wand as much as she can. I am thinking she will have to spread the dots around to other targets as opposed to solely focusing on the main assist? The damage spells are so scarce it makes it tough - so we are looking for any advice to help her out here.

Lastly, I have never played a healer in the game. Are there addons that might make healing easier for her - she finds the task a little daunting as do I, and I didn't want her to start the game off with pugs having all these high expectations for her to preform. Low DPS is a little more forgiving early on.

Thanks!

Numbers at this can and may be affected by available abilties (Don't worry too much about that in the really early levels).

There are at least two people who have Shadow specs that are a great resource - Shadowbill (may be on a variation with Bill in it) or Goodwone (Goodhope, Brokesnare) both of them can help you with your rotation.

As far as addons for healers Grid or Healbot are the most popular ones.

Priests are hybrids so Blizzard designs around them doing slightly less damage then a pure caster class like a Mage or Warlock. As far as Shadow Priests, your class defining ability you do not have access to yet in your 20s. Shadowform adds 15% of your damage once you can get it at level 40 and makes a spriest a lot more viable as a damage dealer. Don't forget too that a spriest is helping to regen mana and contributing to healing while DPSing as shadow. When you get to later levels, things like mind shear just become ridiculous for topping damage charts in 5 mans. So look forward to a nice boost in the 40s and on.

As far as guides, I know wow.com has a couple of priest leveling posts that might help.

For healing addons, the main thing you want to do is consolidate information. The default UI can be really bad for this so getting unit frames with Party/Raid frames can help or using mods like Grid and Healbot. Once you get everyone's health bar consolidated and located in a useful spot on your screen, most people focus on addons that speed up your ability to heal/decurse. Things like Clique can help bind heals/decurses. Curse.com is a great site to look for wow addons. They also have addon packs and compilations that can help you get started quickly.

Hope this helps your wife melt faces.

Shadow Priests are pretty dinky DPSers in the early levels. Ya'll will just have to grin and bear it up until level 40. When She gets Shadowform it will be much easier.

Shadowpriest.com is a very good place to go to get information, I've used them for a while now.

Stick with it because SPriests are ridiculously fun in PVP and at level 80.

Measuring DPS at a low level is kinda tough, but what was said above is right. As you get higher level you will see a jump in your DPS because of shadowform and the aquisition of more skills. Basically you will start seeing your DPS jump once that happens. There aren't really a whole lot of tricks to getting higher DPS at low levels because you have a pretty limited number of tools. But once she gets higher you can check out http://www.shadowpriest.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=23234 to see some tips on how to cast.

Also, once your wife hits level 80 I can get with her and show her the ropes. I've got my shadowpriesting pretty much down to an art haha. My name in game is Shadowbill. :)

Er I thought Tornado was his 8 year old daughter? :P

Yeah just to clear that up, Tornadedo my 8 yr. old girl. :)

Thanks for the advice all - its good to know. Like I said, typically to worry about dps this early isn't really necessary, but the gap was so large between her and other players of equal level in the same instances that I wanted to ping you all about it. Probably going to get her setup with a mouse over dot macro or something to help spread around the delicious shadow pain until lvl 40. Until then we will keep dumping into dps talents I suppose.

Thanks
