My uncle recently shipped me a pack of really high quality cigars, which is what inspires this poll. I am not a smoker myself, and I'm trying to find out what to do with them. I don't smoke simply because my family has a history of addiction, and I don't wish to be another statistic.

So, is it okay? Bad? Sorta-kinda okay?

Your call!

Cigars are good. I've smoked them a few times, just don't drink beer with it, it wakes it taste weird.
I don't smoke for the same reason but have enjoyed a few now and then for special occasions

We know that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit; statistics prove that smoking is bad, and worse yet is the addiction that you mentioned.  Lung cancer, throat cancer, stomach...all sorts of cancer, it can raise your blood pressure, cause heart attacks, the list of the havoc it wrecks on the body is endless.  I say you should throw them away.  You do not want to contribute to anyone's slow, painful, miserable, torturous death.

Hey!  Wait a minute!  D.V. likes cigars, send them to him

Apart from the fact that smoking kills you..lol

We were gonna smoke a cigar upon completion of our degree, but forgot.. They taste horrible anyway.

I smoke cigars on occasion. I have a humidor and keep between 15-25 on hand for occasions where I might want one or one is warrented. A cigar is very different than a cigarette on how it is smoked. They burn a lot hotter so you don't exactly inhale the smoke in the same fashion that you do with cigarettes. Most people I know don't smoke cigars like cigarette smokers do, one after another, or more than one a day, if not every couple of days. Depends on the person I guess.

Quote[/b] ]Obviously, some reasonable degree of prudence in the choice of risk makes sense. But smoking cigars? That would certainly seem to fall in the acceptable category. My father-in-law, who lived to be 97 in marvelous health, attributed his longevity to the fact that he finally gave up smoking cigars-at the age of 90. If you, too, wish to continue smoking cigars for maximum pleasure and minimum health risk, buy those of decent quality, limit yourself to two or three a day and don't inhale.

Do some reading on Cigar smoking compared to cigarette smoking before you decide. If you don't mind me asking, what brand did he send you? I usually keep some Onyx on hand at the house.

Think of it this way, would JESUS SMOKE A CIGAR? NAAAAA... Also God has plans for you. If you are killing yourself you can't carry out a plan can you?

You'll have to work it out for yourself Vanaze.

Fragboy - There are lots of things people do everyday that Jesus would not do, yet people continue to do it.  Smoking a cigar isnt' really an different than any of those other things.

As for the scare tactics about causing cancer....just about everything we eat/drink has a chance of causing some kind of disease or health problem. If you drink soda, eat anything with artificial ingredients you put your health at risk.

Well, Thaddius, best I can tell, he took a box of them and made his own little personal mix. There are two or three cohibas, several fuentes, a handful of Hoya de Monterrey's and two auroras. Quite a handful. He warned me not to leave them all in the same box for too long without smoking them, lest the flavors blend. I've always found the entire process of cigar making and blending quite fascinating, just never had the want to try one out.

Perhaps I'll take them out and pass a few around to my friends in about 3 days when my best friend of 9 years turns 18

Sounds like a worthy occasion. I smoked a cigar on my 18th birthday with some friends. I'm not a habitual smoker either, and to date that has been the only cigar I've ever smoked. Then again I've proven myself the liberal around these parts.

The cancer rate in north america is always going up becaus we put chemicals in everything to make them grow faster, from meat to vegitables. So smoking a cigar once in a while is not that bad. If u were so worried about cancer u should start eating organic foods.

I hope I didn't go to far off topic

lol, I was prepared for this.

Studies show that casual smokers, those who smoke as MUCH as two cigars a day (apparently, type of tobacco and such is irrelevant) have no related health risks, no inreased chance of cancer and no increased chance of heart disease. I plan on smoking *one* for *one* special occasion.

Now, people who smoke as much as George Burns are a different story.......But I guess that would make ole' Burns the exception?

Vanaze, its up to you inthe end. I would have no problem with smoking a cigar on a special occasion. It doesnt mean your becoming a chain smoker. I doubt that one cigar will detriment your lifespan any more than a macdonalds meal. So just see how your heart lies with it. The only thing i would consider, as with most things that fall into the "grey area" of christianity. Is that is your witness affected if you are seen to be doing it? Is it benfecial to you?

well. you MIGHT run the risk of becoming addicted after you get somewhat 'used' to it. so you might not. again, 1 every once and awhile is ok i guess, but it wouldn't taste VERY good if you did it only once and awhile... don forget, read the warning labels.
