Also forget about Trillian, I have a strong suspicion that is has ties with adware companies. If your using the latest version of basic, right click on a underlined work in the text and click 'Search the Web'. This will launch a browser window and search using 'Mysearch.com' which is known for spyware/adware/toolbars/etc.
I recently moved to Miranda IM. I've used it before and didn't like it, but that was an early version. So far so good and it works with Google Talk. The download is like 250kb and on my system it takes up ~1mb of memory.
Another thing about trillian is that it updates the user list everytime you login. So if you delete someone from your list, after closing and reopening, their right back in your list. There is a check box in Miranda that stops that.
I just wish they could have come up with a better name...
*edit*: According to Spyware Guide (and spywareinfo) My Search is just a toolbar made by Ask Jeeves. Check it out here.
