Suggestions for personal site hosting?

While Go Daddy does a fine job hosting the Christian Gamers Alliance site and forums, I've had to contact them on at least five separate occasions regarding a recurring problem with my personal site's image gallery. I'm tired of calling tech support every time the gallery breaks, so I just want to cancel my account with Go Daddy and move my personal site to a new host.

Any suggestions? I'm a poor college student, so anything over $10 a month is out of the question. The host has to support PHP-Nuke and the Gallery module. The more space the better, but I need a minimum of 500MB (my gallery has grown quite large since I started it). I know I'm being pretty picky, but I have to believe there's a host out there that can keep my gallery running for more than a month at a time.

Hmm. I am sure that someone will have a better suggestion within your price range. I personally use ReadySetConnect.com. I suggested it to host the website of my old youth group, and we hardly use any of it. We paid 200$ or so(canadian..) and we have the hosting for 2 years. I just looked at the pricing and it is quite high, and the pricing depends on your payment. Since you are a college student, you would probably be paying by the month, so I doubt you would want to go with these guys. These guys are the only paid host that I've used personally, and I like them, so I figured I would post here. I am on a cheaper plan then the one below..i have 1250 mb, and 40 gigs per month. (Which we hardly use, and they said that I could host my personal website on it, so woot :)) Anyway, good luck finding a web host! :)

ReadyConnect
Disk Space 1500 MB
Bandwidth 60 GB
1-Month Price $13.95/mo
3-Month Price $12.95/mo
6-Month Price $11.95/mo

I should probably give you this link.. http://webhostingforums.com is a forum that discusses this, you could probably find a good webhost there, and post your question there as well if needed.

Tek, how much bandwidth do you need per month? I can whip up a quote real quick if you're interested. And, yes, it has been tested and runs perfectly with Gallery and PHP-Nuke. =)

SirTom I think fac3less Could host a site for him, he host my site and everything works fine on it, I also talk to him a ton so you could message me if you guys are having problems ? tell me and ill talk to him -> website -> http://www.saygeek.com/news.php he barters so :D

Sirius: David has the same host I do, I think, so the money's going to the same place. =D

Tek: A plan with 750 MB of space and 10 GB of bandwidth will be roughly $6.50 per month, but I'd be more than willing to chip in and knock that down to 2 or 3 bucks a month. Everything is fully expandable, I control everything down to the megabyte if needed. As I said, my server runs Gallery and other intensive apps in more than one place with no issues.

$6.50 for 750MB is acceptable. :) Please e-mail the details to tek7 AT toj DOT cc

Go Daddy fixed my gallery, so I probably won't be moving my personal site until I can finish or delegate more projects within CGA or ToJ (read: It may be a while).

/me nudges thread

I recently put in a support ticket with Go Daddy (for help with my personal site), asking them to repeat whatever they do to get my gallery working. After three days, they finally fixed the problem. A few days later, the gallery started kicking out errors again. When I put in another support ticket, I received a canned response:
Currently, support is not authorized to assist with coding, designing, or troubleshooting your website. I do apologize for any inconvenience. You may wish to consult a web developer regarding this issue, or perhaps visit our hosting FAQ's at http://help.godaddy.com.
In my support ticket, I explicitly asked the tech to bump the ticket to second tier support since this was only the latest in a long string of errors. He instead closed the ticket with no effort to fix the problem.

While Go Daddy hosts the Christian Gamers Alliance site, I can no longer recommend them as a web host. Their e-mail support staff often closes tickets with only a cursory glance and a canned response. Their phone support techs do a better job, but it takes several minutes (average 6 to 10) to get anyone on the line. And even though the CGA forums run smoothly now (for the most part), getting them online and operational was a nightmare. (Ask Hescominsoon for the details if your stomach is strong enough.)

Tom: I've sent you an e-mail requesting detailed specs on your hosting plan. If you could install and test Gallery 2.0 on your site to verify it will work, I'd very much appreciate it. After moving from the atrocious phpwebhosting to the less awful Go Daddy, I don't want to move my site again any time soon.
