I hadn't heard of it before your post, so I did a quick search and found the page for TF2 Classified (formerly TF2 Classic) on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3545060/Team_Fortress_2_Classified/

Ok, well, I can't play the game because I had an engine error with DirectX or something.

You might want to give this a shot:

TF2 Classified cannot be ran in DirectX 9.0b or lower. Put -dxlevel 95 into the launch parametrs of your game, start the game once and then remove this launch parameter afterwards, so it's permanently saved."

But no guarantee it will work. I found that text in a bug report on the TF2 Classified issue tracker, so I'm guessing other people are experiencing the same issue even with the fix.

I fixed the problem. I had to go to properties in the library, type in -dxlevel 95, and it worked. I got to play, and it was amazing. I highly recommend you try it too.

I played a few rounds of TF2 Classified earlier today. I really enjoyed it! Took me back to the early days of TF2 before they added so much cruft. Some of the features also reminded me of NeoTF, an old mod of Team Fortress Classic (which I guess would make it a mod of a mod?).
