Thorim Last Attempt Video

Well, it looks like positioning will be very important for ranged on that fight. They need to always get away from the charged pillars, but if they don't have to worry about that then it is probably best for them to be right under the boss, since the adds only come from the seats in the arena. The evokers need to go down first, followed by champions because of the whirlwind, but the rest should probably just be hit with AoE. Was there some time after boss mods announced the hammer target for that person to move away from the group? If there was, it might be easier to try and keep the ranged closer to the tank and just have the hammer target move out.

I went and did some exploring in Ulduar, and fortunately the mobs in Thorim's room didn't have high stealth detection. It looks like the best positioning for the ranged might be directly under the boss for some of the group, especially if stormhammer has a little travel time. The pillars on each side aren't very close there, so you could probably just shift a bit to the left or the right according to what pillar is charged. Not all of the group will probably fit there, but it looks like a pretty good spot for however many can fit. As I said, the pillars are far apart there and there are no adds above it to jump down on your head.

Sounds like some groups try the approach of putting everyone in the middle. This fixes some problems and presents some others, but it might be worth a try.

Pros
1. Less aggro issues as everyone would be standing in the consecrate range.
2. No getting hit with the charged pillars

Cons.
1. Champions whirlwind would damage everyone - some strats talk about using disarm or rogues to prevent the whirlwind and making this target high priority to go down.

I'm pretty sure druids don't have disarm. Warriors, we needz em.
 
Problem with standing together is the hammer target has to clear out as I got stunned several times and I noticed big health spikes as when I could no longer block/dodge/parry attacks.

Calling out agro is still key. To many silent people in vent. Wall did it several times and Doc did too but others were not. My multiple mob taunt can take three folks off you but I have to know who I am putting it on for it to work and I can only do it every 8 seconds.

I really wish their was an improved version of the force reactive disk. Would make getting agro a lot easier.
 
Divine Sacrifice has no effect on threat.

Offtopic : The new fav combo is for ret pallies to spec into this. Pop Divine Shield and Divine Sacrifice at the same time. Thus redirecting raid damage to you ,but you are immune. Yummy.

5/4 In the Thorim encounter, the Iron Ring Guard’s Whirling Trip ability will now only hit the tank.

This is really nice nerf. Should help the arena quite a bit.
 
Another problem standing in the center all bunched up is the thrown hammer from the boss. It reduces casting time and when all the healers get that, it's almost impossible to keep people alive. And I dont have a mic on Bill's comp or my comp..only on his laptop unfortunately >.< or else I'd squeal every time something was on me :p Anyways was a good learning experience...i feel confident healing the arena part at least :/ lol. Cool video :)
 
If I am tanking the arena, just macro a /t to me with my name in it like "Sandric HELP!"

I have a chat mod that both audibly and visually highlights messages with my name in it center screen.

MindControl the Evokers or WarBringers in the Arena
Runebringers provides a nice casting buff to the MC priest's party. This provides an aura which increases casting speed (haste) by 20% to nearby allies.

More priest and mage tricks
Cast mass dispel to get rid of the Evokers Runic Mending and Runic Shield.
Mages can also spellsteal the Runic Shield (Surrounds the caster with a runic barrier, absorbing 120000 magical damage and reducing all Physical damage taken by 50%.). This makes them go down faster and boosts the raid.
