Thursday 9:45PM EST-- Guild Bible Study

As voted on by the members of the guild who expressed interest, we will be hosting a guild Bible Study in our guild hall on Thursday evenings. I get home from work at 9:30 EST on Thursdays, so unfortunately this is the earliest I can start. I will guide the discussion the first few weeks, and then once we get it rolling I'll ask for volunteers to lead.

Two rules that everyone should follow:

1. This will be an inductive study. This means that what I will be doing is facilitating discussion by asking questions, not necessarily teaching. Active participation is a must.

2. There are certain passages of Scripture that tend to instigate heated discussions based on denominational differences (including one in James that I can think of off the top of my head). Please remember that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and that listening and respecting the opinions of others is often a great way to increase your understanding of both their position and your own. As such, all opinions of all denominations will be treated with respect. You may respectfully disagree, but it cannot go beyond that.

For week one, we will be looking at James 1:1-8. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

I'll log on when I get home from dance class. Don't know what time, but if it's still going, I'll join in.

"Active participation" is no problem for me. I always have plenty to say, so no worries there. Just ask my Sunday school teacher... :)

Considering that I pick you up from your class at 9:45 EST, you probably won't be able to log in until 10:15 or so. :(

I think the Bible study is a great idea guys.

I think I'll leave class at 9:30. I may miss the finger cymbals-too bad! ;) (Or as I call them, "Middle Eastern torture devices.")

How late do we expect the Bible study to go?

We'll be studying James 1:1-8, so maybe 45 minutes to an hour or so?

EDIT: Here's the text we'll be studying (NKJV translation):

1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings.

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
