Total Newbie Guide?

After grinding out to level 10 in about 7 hours (three deaths in the quarry delayed me quite a bit), I realize that I know absolutely nothing about this game.

I checked some of the FAQs on GameFAQs, but they all seem to be focused on end-game for warriors. Is there a beginning Warrior's guide somewhere on the web? Thanks in advance.

Your welcome in advance.

Now... id go 2h in the early levels...they do LOADS of damage... my level 12 warrior hit a mob for a crit of 111 before... thats crazy... and soloed hogger, a level 11 elite.

I'd going to take the money line here that he didn't understand half of what you said, lol. I feel secure in that since I'm lvl 24 and there were a couple things I was unsure of.;)

Actually, I picked up on what he was saying.

I decided to go 1H w/ shield because my DPS was almost as high with a tomahawk, plus TH builds rage quicker. The added +block with the shield actually saved me once. I'm going to keep both capped though, as you never know what's going to drop and the more important thing early on is to be adaptable.

Elite = named mob?

An elite is typically something that can take anywhere from a small group to fight to a full raid group. Elite doesn't always mean a named mob, but it is something that is a lot harder to fight than a normal monster, and they always have more health points, and typically hit for a lot harder.

When going up any elite for a quest I'd suggest going with at least one other person. As you level up, you should expect some elites to get a whole lot more difficult to fight.

Elite mobs have gold dragons around their avatar.
Rare mobs have silver dragons
Normal mobs do not have either
A named mob can be elite, rare or normal

For warriors, I find that having a 2h really helps lvl a lot faster (more dmg = more rage = more skills to spam). I use the battle stance to lvl but I'll be switching to zerker stance once I get it. Defencive stance is awesome for tanking instances (places where good loot drops, requires a party), I find that lvling in defencive really gimps dps (really slow and painful way to lvl). If you find that you can't take out the mob(s) start running to avoid death.
At low lvls warriors are pretty boring to play because of the lack of skills and near death experiences with mobs of the same lvl. At around lvl 24 they start to get a lot better, and at 55 they just own.
Also pick up first-aid, fishing and cooking. Since warriors can't heal themselves first-aid is the best healing a warrior can get when grinding or questing. Fishing is for the free food, for a first toon food can be expensive. Cooking is for the fishes that you catch, as well as for other meat that can be found off mobs. At high lvl's of cooking you can make food that gives your really decent buffs for 10-15 minutes. You can buy cooking recipes from trade vendors (some have them, some may not).

Well....

After giving it a good, honest try, I realized the amount of devotion this game would require is similar to that of FFXI-- and the reason I quit FFXI was because I don't have time to do 4 hour raids or 6 hour quests.

You guys rock, but this isn't something I can commit to right now. Best of luck, and if any of you pick up GW on the side, shoot me a PM and we'll get you in Spirit of Elijah.

Honestly there were a couple weeks where I was only playing 4 or 5 days a week during my lunch break and I was still moving along at a decent clip. Unlike almost every other MMORPG this is alot easier to make progress in and be a casual player.
