Upcoming technologies for a new computer

I'm lookin' for assistance here.

Sometime I'd like to purchase a new computer, and I'm not sure what kind of technologies it should use. For example, I know PCI-Express is almost a must nowadays, but what other technologies (such as 64 bit) should be in the computer?
 
If I can find a computer that runs off kerosene and diesel then that's technological enough for me.

I keep hearing a lot about SLI and quad-core machines. I'm waiting for an exact UT2007 recommended specs before I determine if I can play it on my laptop, or if I need to build a new machine. Unreal Engine 3.0 has been getting CRAZY amounts of licenses, so I think it's safe to say that the majority of high-graphics games you'll be playing from summer 2006, to throughout 2007, will be UE3-based. Keep watching for an exact spec sheet. The game is supposed to be out in April or May, and we're supposed to see a demo before the end of February (this is all rumor), so it should be available soon.
 
I'll be upgrading my PC in a couple of months and I already have the parts picked out. I'm going to get a mobo that supports SLI and 939 pin AMD processors. I'll probably get 2 1GB sticks of dual channel memory, an nVidia 7800GT PCI-Express vid card, and a AMD64 3500+ processor. Right now, I don't really need the SLI but when it's time to upgrade again, all I'll have to do is plop another 7800GT video card in and my performance will jump about 80%. Also, when I need a new processor, I can opt for a new dual-core processor that is essentially 2 CPUs on one die.

It all really depends on what kind of money you plan to spend and what all parts you need to buy (ie burner, hard drive, case, power supply, etc). There is also a pretty big difference if you go with Intel <shudders at the thought> rather than an AMD based system. I stay pretty up-to-date on what the latest technologies are and what they actually do. If you have questions about stuff, I can usually answer them.
