ViM Trapper Strategy

Since we seem to have hit a wall concerning winning with ViM, particuarly in deathmatch casses where you dont have a objective.

Objectives:

1) Discuss overall strategy related to how to best position the trappers and avoid periods without healing.

2) Discuss warrior strategies to "assasinate" essential targets.

3) Discuss potential build changes.

4) Focus on how we can better coordinate the 2 entities: warriors and trappers.

5) Set a specific system for a) calling targets b) calling spirits

Please moderate your opinions unless you are suggesting a new idea or enforcing apon an already stated theory.

Ok since noone seems interested I will post my thoughts and personal experiences.

The warriors by themselves should go after the monks, from my experience the protection monk is one of the easiest to kill due to the lack of a self heal (and usually a self condition removal), I propose that a warrior goes after the WoH or Blessed Light healer and another goes after the RC/Prot when facing a balanced build. if they do have another monk he will be situated trying to heal the rest of the party, and a high amount of damage directed at the 2 remaining monks.

The trappers need to steadily advance, usually we end up traveling in bursts of 10-20 feet, this is bad as there are no heals up, there are not traps to prevent damage (via blindness) and this usually slaughters the lot of the trappers.

Ressurecting is another problem, usually a warrior will have a res and noone will res them, the warriors are the essential part of this build, only they have the best chance of knocking out the monks. Without them up and pressuring the monks the warriors can sweep in and slaughter the rangers wholesale.

not much to improve takes pratice to make it better. Just because we lose a few while people are learning it still does not mean it is broken. You have good points but basically everything you said comes with experiance from playing it.

the problem is experience, people dont know what they are doing wrong, you need to hold post-analysis to improve apon builds

Good point Vibro, and dredd.

The thing that i thought we had a problem with last night was that the trappers were kinda spread out and didnt seem like we were very close. Also when warrior's started taking more and more damage was hard for them to get bak to healing spring's to heal up before they died. Like Vibro said advancing slowly would help this and pratice pratice pratice.

I'm sad that Vibro doesn't seem to be around any longer, but I think he had a good idea to open up a thread discussing VIM strategy. Its true that we will get better with experience, but it is also true that there are likely some things people are either doing or not doing on a consistent basis which impact our level of success. I'm not talking about occasional mistakes like setting off the timer early or forgetting to drop FS when its needed, but general points of strategy and character setup (skills/attributes/weapons/runes).

Since I will be in charge of PvP on Friday and we will likely do VIM, I would like to hold both a briefing and a debriefing via TS. These will be very short and to-the-point (no snickering please, I AM capable of short and to-the-point :p ) because I do recognize that people don't want to sit around discussing things all night. If we discover during the briefing that some folks are not set up properly, we'll note that and make plans to take care of it AFTER our PvP time. I'll also remind everyone about the general strategy, and then we'll go with what we have without delay. Then once we have people who start saying they need to leave, we'll return to the guild hall as a group and have a very short (5 minutes max) debriefing. After this, anyone who still wants to play can return with me to HoH and we'll PUG what we need to keep going. I will take notes at both the briefing and debriefing and post them to this thread. And I will do whatever I can to help folks improve their setup for the next time we do VIM.
