New Feature: Virtual Realms
Virtual Realms are sets of realms that are fused together, and will behave exactly as if they were one cohesive realm. Players on the same Virtual Realm will be able to join guilds, access a single Auction House, join arena teams and raids, as well run dungeons or group up to complete quests.
Players belonging to the same Virtual Realm will have a (#) symbol next to their name.
Source: 5.4 PTR Now Live!!

Testing on PTR doesn't guarantee the feature will be added on the live servers, but it's a very encouraging step in the right direction.

This could be big news for Redeemed, as it would give us a significantly larger pool from which to recruit new members.

EDIT: Thanks to Elader for telling me about this news yesterday. :)

Why are they so afraid of the term 'server merge'? This is a server merge.
Because server merge gives off the scent of impending doom.

DOOOOOOOOM~

But seriously, they should have done this months ago. It might have kept more people from leaving the game. I still think it stands a good chance of giving the game (especially on low population PvP servers like Stonemaul, which suffer from cross realm ganking but don't gain significant benefits other than the presence of more people in areas like Stormwind, Goldshire, and Dalaran).

I think there's still a lot of life left in WoW, but only if Blizzard doesn't strangle it to death first. :p

TheMonkey enjoys reading speculation about why or why not somebody does or does not do something. TheMonkey thinks and wonders about the same things and considers the following issues:

1. GUILD NAMES
There are 54 guilds named Redeemed. In a server merge, which guild keeps their name and which do not? TheMonkey has a 3 bunches of banana's saying that ToJ:Redeemed will not get to keep their guild name.

2. PLAYER NAMES
There are many copies of the same name across all the realms and some people have themed their characters names. In a server merge, who gets to keep their name and who looses it?

3. PLAYERS TASTES
The assumption that server merges are needed are predicated on the idea that everybody on a low pop server doesn't want to be there. Yet a lot of the population on low pop servers remain because they enjoy low population servers. People who don't enjoy low pop servers have already transferred toons off. And then there are those who complain about the cost of transferring. TheMonkey wonders if you wanted off a low pop server and was worried about the cost and didn't take advantage of the 50% character transfer sale, if money was really the concern at all, giving up two days of Lattes at the overpriced Starbucks would have paid for a character transfer. It is also free to start a new toon on a new server and with all the bonuses to levelling, you can get to max level in a matter of weeks by playing only an hour or so a day. Themonkey's experience with people who complain about not having enough time to level a new toon are also the ones that play the games way to much.

4. OTHER SOLUTIONS
There may be other solutions that provide the same effect without the draw backs (but pose new ones) and with all the benefits people want. Enhanced CRZ, Looking for raid, the new Flexible raid, the new Virtual realms all provide players with similar benefits of the server merges without the draw backs.

Themonkey enjoys the game of speculation. How close do you think to the actual reason why mergers have not taken place do you think Themonkeys speculations are?

The monkey is must read any time the monkey post no matter what forum it is in...

But in response to questions 1-4...

1 & 2- are easier- tags... So guilds and individual names will come with the redeemed.stonemaul type tag same for people icthus.logos.stonemaul

3. There are always contrarians but you don't build a business model on them. The god-men of Blizzard will determine what a minimum population is required to be profitable and keep some servers at that number. They will rule with an iron fist and not listen to you because they know what is best for you and your enjoyment of their universe.

4. I got nothing but a bunch of bananas here.

Themonkey spent the day burning banana chocolate chip muffins. Themonkey would say that Themonkey is a sad panda but themonkey knows that would not make sense.

Comprehending the idea of themonkey.themonkeyserver.stormstoutbrewery as an in game mail address causes Themonkeys banana loaf to go to mush.
