With all of the features in StarCraft II I was just curious to see what other people are most looking forward to.

I'm mostly interested in the Campaign. After beating the campaign though I'm interested in getting friends together and doing multiplayer. I also have an interest in map-making, although from what I hear about the galaxy editor it seems daunting lol.

LAN Pla- oh wait.

Does it have a solid cover system? I still don't see the point in standing out in the open trading bullets like it was the 18th century...

SCII is actually one of the first Blizz games that I've actually lost interest in the closer it comes to release. Right now I'm far, far more interested in Catacalysm...

Blizzard is looking into ways to keep LAN in StarCraft II. No one knows exactly how it will be incorporated though.

Do you have a link proving this? I want to believe, but my trust in PC developers and publishers has been kicked around quite a bit lately.

I am looking forward to the ensuing drama from players. It is always interesting to see what is "missing".

I am very interested because this game will have a difficult time living up to the hype and wait.

I'll see your "difficult" and raise you an "impossible."

With many of the key Blizzard employees responsible for creating the original StarCraft having since left the company, it's hard to imagine that StarCraft II will live up to expectations.

That doesn't mean it won't be an amazing game, though, just that odds are very high that it won't live up to the ridiculously lofty expectations gamers have for a sequel to one of the greatest strategy titles of all time when they've been waiting 12 years.

That's...not LAN at all.

The article read like a gaming "journalist" putting words in the mouths of Blizzard employees who are preoccupied with other things.

BLIZZARD EMPLOYEE: I'd love to chat, but I have to go get a burger.

"JOURNALIST": Would you say that burger is...a buffalo burger?

BLIZZARD EMPLOYEE: Yeh, kid, sure, whatever.

"JOURNALIST": What a scoop!

"Something like that" is not the kind of response a hard news reporter would settle for. Imagine what would happen if a reporter asked if the mayor was snorting talcum powder instead of crack cocaine and the mayor answered, "Something like that," and the reporter let it go.

I think it's fair to say that the headline promises more than the story delivers.

The irony, of course, is that the original StarCraft likely wouldn't have been as popular if not for piracy and/or LAN parties. I'm not advocating piracy; just saying that Blizzard purposely removing LAN play in StarCraft II to help prevent piracy is ironic when it was LAN play and sometimes piracy that exposed new players to the original StarCraft.

EDIT: Now just to be clear, I have every intention of buying StarCraft II at some point so long as it's not awful. StarCraft is my favorite strategy game of all time and I've been waiting for this sequel for 12 years. True, there's approximately 0% chance of it living up to my expectations, but it should still be fun to play with other ToJ members.

I changed your statement to show where I've heard this before.

That being said, WoW could have been a fluke.

Not as good as DoW2.

Its quite different cover system; hiding under trees, cliff ranges, etc.

Units that are in trees are considered to be "in cover". Any units that are in cover only have a 70% chance of being hit. Keeping more vulnerable units, such as Marines, under the cover of trees greatly increases their life expectancy and allows them to hold their own against more powerful units.

Also, each unit has different types of damage.

* Normal weapons are equally effective against all types of units.
* Concussion/Plasma weapons do 50% damage against Medium units and 25% against Large units.
* Explosive weapons do 50% damage against Small units and 75% against Medium units.

But in SC2, they have Bonus Damage on specific units, giving them the advantage.

Reaper Damage: 4 (x2)
Bonus: +4 vs Light

Well at least they do actually have something, which is more than I expected. :)
[edit]Oh wait, those links were for the original SC? So they haven't changed....

I don't think we know yet whether there will be cover for units. Obviously there's the issue of cloaking and burrowing units, which I think provides some cover. Also, they are adding elements to the maps that you can't see through, like grass or vents, so units can hide behind these vision obstacles.

Yes, it also effects high ground too.

Any LAND units, low ground cannot see high ground.

Such as this picture: http://www.starcraft2.com/screenshot.xml?s=100

The Lurkers can't see the Colossus, so they can't attack them.

This picture shows exactly what Bowser says: http://www.starcraft2.com/screenshot.xml?s=42

The tall grass make it hard for the RED Player to see the GREEN Player.
