We are all the same Christians, yet we are different denominations.

I am a SDA, which means I go to church on Saturday rather then Sunday.

All true Christians are "born again".

I will go tell everyone in my family that goes to church, and all the people in my old parish that they are not true christians their just catholics wanting to be christian. I'm sry I never knew that. Good thing I stoped going to church, it was a waste of time. Somebody should of told me this when I was younger.

Um, what? You are "born again" when you accept Jesus into your heart. Doesn't matter which denom it is.

your catholic that is all... Catholics have different beliefs than protestants, which is what the majority of people are here? do catholics go to heaven? id ont know, I know my Grandmother was a God fearing and devout catholic, It is up to God though, even if i go to heaven or not.

What kind of Christian are you?

An Authentic one, Real one

The Christian life is not about being sinless it is about sinning less. it is a life of trying, and doing.

Being a Christian isn't about sinning less either. Some Christians are very weak and can't resist temptation well. Being a Christian is about following Jesus.

My pastor just had a sermon on this and we are discussing it in another forum. Denominations expect you to be saved AND something else. That's why they are a denomination in the first place. They weren't satisfied with just being a Christian, they wanted to stand apart because they believed something else. This division hurts the church as a whole. Jesus said a house divided will fall. We have over 50,000 denominations... that's a HUGE division. And for what? So you can call yourself a baptist? A catholic? A presbyterian? I call myself Christian, there is no and. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Saviour. Don't take offense, take it as it is. Are you in your church for God or for politics.

ok the last time I'm not a catholic atleast I don't think I am. I was raised catholic but don't know what I am right now. I'm in between religions right now. My whole family is catholic. But I question evertthing. Its the engineer in me I guess.
But your right my dad told me once all religions are similar they believe in god its just that god came to them in a different form or shape. I have friends that are prodestian, baptist, muslum, hindu,Sikh, etc. And I personally think of them as all the same, they all believe in god, he just comes to them in different ways. I always thought of all christians as the same, I never knew there wre so many different types it seems there is a new type of church open almost everyday. Justice is a cool guy, he sees all christian as the same. Except I'm not really a Jahovas Withness(I know Jango I can't spell) Fan I like celebrating birthdays, but I have friends that are and I respect that.
Sry about the born again crack it was more sarcasm. But if u ask my parents I'm never serious and always sarcastic. Plus I love playing devils advocate.

The difference is Jesus Christ. Jesus said that the only way to the Father (God) is through him. Either Jesus is wrong or all the other religions are wrong. This is a choice you have to make.

There's got to be a back door. I'm not sure agout this Jesus guy then. I personally think u don't need anyone inbetween to talk to god. Thats y I questioned being a catholic. I don't want to talk to the secretary I want to talk to god directly. Do u know what I mean. Because I've had a few conversations with god. And I like it that way I don't like to play telephone.

Jesus is part of the Godhead Trinity. According to Jesus teachings, there is no backdoor, there is no otherway. Prayer and talking to Jesus IS talking to God. The only way to Heavan is a narrow road (meaning there are not many ways, only one) and that is accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and savior, that he died on the cross as the ultimate sacrifice for your sin so that you can be reconciled to God as there is no good that you can do that is pleasing to Go and that God has raised Jesus from the dead.

and when u pray and walk with God you ARE talking to God, and sometimes God answers back. though He only does it occasionally for me i still know he's there

It's mentioned in the Scriptures that after the need for the Jewish Temple was gone, we could "boldy approach the throne" of God. Jesus isn't just the communicator, He is the one you're communicating to when you pray to God. He is God, but is the mediator. That's the insanely paradoxal truth that is the Trinity.

I still don't like it, there are many remigions that don't have mediator. Like Muslums and Sikh. Its find of like being Hindu though where they have a whole bunch of figurines that they pray to but all of them are really one god, I think in different shapes.
Taj Mahal coolest building in the world, was atually built by the Muslums when they were in power in India. I didn't know that till last year. And I'm East Indian. I'm going to see it for the first time next September, hopefuly.
But yeah I still don't get the whole trinity thing, I'm just not feeling it.

hey, I leave for two weeks and the board is full of new posts/activity. Maybe I'm bad luck... anyway welcome to the forums Joseph. Its a lil late but whatever.

I think vanase/atown/peon nailed it.
^if you want to find a great cutting edge religion to make you feel better and suit you, I'm afraid your talking to the wrong people. Christianity will not do that. Jesus Christ showed us the way to gain eternal life. Truth is not relative. I don't know anything about Muslims. I have only heard one teaching from thier religion, and I disagree with it. Musims believe Jesus never died on the cross. I don't understand how intelligent people can justify a conned death via crucifixion but whatever. Never heard of Sikh. I don't even know much about catholicism. The whole praying to saints/mary doesn't sit right with me. I'm a saint. if you pray to me after I die, I won't be able to hear you because I will be dead. Mary can not hear anyones prayers because she is dead... When I think of catholicism I think of rutualistic pharisees, but I'm probably making a huge generalization. Again I don't know much about catholicism.
A verse off the top of my head is Mark 16:16. That verse defines a Christian very bluntly. My advice would be to not look for a religion. Just look for God.

I already know where god is, I'm trying to learn about different religions. For some reason it interests me. And I'd just like to say saints are cool, I was named after St. Domnic Savio. My mom asked him to pray that I was born saftly and when I came out I looked just like him. Really I'm a really light brown indian guy. Thats how I got my name.

Quote[/b] ] Do Catholics pray TO saints?

We pray with saints, not to them.
Have you ever asked anyone to pray for you when you were having a hard time? Why did you choose to ask that person?

You may have chosen someone you could trust, or someone who understood your problem, or someone who was close to God. Those are all reasons we ask saints to pray for us in times of trouble.

Since saints led holy lives and are close to God in heaven, we feel that their prayers are particularly effective. Often we ask particular saints to pray for us if we feel they have a particular interest in our problem.

I talk to my Saint I don't know y but I do.

Quote[/b] ] Patron of the Falsly Accused

b. 1842 d. 1857

St. Dominic Savio was born in Italy in 1842. One day when he was just four, he disappeared and his good mother went looking for him. She found the little fellow in a corner praying with his hands joined and his head bowed. He already knew all his prayers by heart! At five, he was an altar boy. When he was seven, he received his First Holy Communion. On that solemn day, he chose a motto: "Death, but not sin!" and he kept it always.

"A teenager such as Dominic, who bravely struggled to keep his innocence from Baptism to the end of his life, is really a saint," said Pope St. Pius X.

Yes, Dominic was an ordinary boy with an extraordinary love for God.

At the age of twelve, Dominic entered the school run by St. John Bosco. Don Bosco examined him first and at the end of the questions, Dominic asked,

"What do you think of me?"

"I think you're good material," answered the priest, with a big smile.

"Well, then," said Dominic, "You are a good tailor, so if the material is good, take me and make a new suit out of me for Our Lord!"

Everyone in the school saw from the way he prayed that this boy was different. He greatly loved all the boys, and even though he was younger, he used to worry about them. He was afraid that they would lose the grace of God by sinning.

One day, a fellow brought a magazine full of bad pictures to school. In a minute, a group of boys had gathered around him to see it.

"What's up?" wondered Dominic, and he, too, went to look. Just one peek was enough for him. He grabbed the magazine and tore it to pieces! "Poor us!" he cried in the meantime, "Did God give us eyes to look at such things as this? Aren't you ashamed?"

"Oh, we were just looking at these pictures for the fun of it," said one boy.

"Sure, for fun," answered Dominic, &q uot;and in the meantime you're preparing yourselves to go to hell!"

"Oh, what's so wrong about looking at these pictures anyway?" another fellow demanded.

Dominic had a ready answer. "If you don't see anything wrong," he said sadly, "this is even worse." It means you're used to looking at shameful things!"

No one said anything after that. They all realized that Dominic was right. Another time he stopped a terrific stone-throwing fight between two angry boys. Holding up a little crucifix between them, he said, "Before you fight, look at this and say, 'Jesus Christ was innocent and He died forgiving His murderers. I am a sinner, and I am going to hurt Him by not forgiving my enemies.' Then you can start - and throw your first stone at me!"

The two boys were so ashamed of themselves that they apologized, and promised to go to confession too.

One day Dominic began to feel sick and was sent home to get better. While at home he grew worse, instead, and received the last Sacraments. He was only fifteen then, but he did not fear death. In fact, he was overjoyed at the thought of going to Heaven. Just before he died, he tried to sit up.

"Goodbye," he murmured to his good father. Suddenly his face lit up with a smile of great joy and happiness. "I am seeing such wonderful things!" he exclaimed. Then he spoke no more, for he had gone to Heaven.

Dominic is the patron saint of choir boys and of the falsely accused.

This latter title was given to him due to the following incident. One time, two boys filled the school stove with snow and garbage during the cold winter months. When the teacher came back into the room, they falsely accused Dominic of doing the "dirty" deed. Although disciplined in front of the entire class, Dominic refused to tell on the two mischievous boys. When the truth was later revealed, Dominic was asked why he didn't confess to his innocence. He remarked that he was imitating Our Lord, Who remained silent during His persecutions and crucifixion.

His feast day is March 9th.

Even though he's one of those kids in school who always try to do the right thing and u sometimes want to beat up, he's pretty cool.

^heh, can't beat the shamrock analogy

ah, thats a whole different thing. I think its very important to know why you believe what you believe.

That was an interesting clip of praying to saints. Sadly it still doesn't work. First off, no one really knows the order of events in the end. We don't know where people go right after they die. Maybe they go straight to heaven, maybe people stay in Paradise/Hades untill the rapture where they then go to Heaven/Hell. There is a lot of speculation on it, and no one can know for sure.
Lets assume there are saints right now in Heaven. If you try to ask a saint to pray for your need, he could not hear you. Only God is all knowing/ omnipresent. Only God can hear our prayers. You would have to ask God to tell the saint to pray for whatever your concern was. Which would be kind of strange. I'm sure you understand why but I"m going to throw in an example cuz I'm bored rite now.
It would be like me asking Tek7 to tell sealcomm that I would like sealcomm to then hint to Tek7 that I still haven't gotten my prize for post 200 and post 300 is comming up and I want something big.
Instead I'll just simply tell Tek7 that post 300 is comming up, and I want a big gift for being such a loyal poster.

Thats a neat story about your name, I'll have to find someone cool that was named Corey, and tell everyone I was named after him. All that is comming to mind right now is "Boy meets world" go figure...
