Why is it Ok To Kill?

I guess I want to sum this up in this way:
Elements of killing in real life:
Usually done in hate
Take away someone's future
Take away someone that might be special to another therefore creating pain
Cause funeral costs and whatnot
Loss of productivity in society (by and large at least)

Elements of killing in a game:
Your team gains a point or man advantage.

See, killing in real life takes away from the person killed (they lose their future, you take them away from those who love them, etc.)and those around them (kids may depend on them, friends and co-workers would lose an elemental part of their life, etc.) When I kill someone in a video game, I take nothing of real value from them or anyone else. I guess to answer this question, one must ask why killing is bad. I don't see a single "why" for real life killing being bad transferring over to video games.

Say what?

How do you eliminate someone in CS? You kill them.

What happens when you get eliminated in CS? You diebecause you were shot and killed.

Call it whatever you want, it's still killing.

(this one is for Marcy...)

You can put a bow on a pig and sit him in a pew, but it's still a pig.

Or my personal favorite at the moment...A cat can give birth to kittens in an oven, but that don't make them biscuits.

<edited to remove unneeded emphasis>

What was Lincolns quote? I forget, but someone had it up at work. Put a Tail on it and somthing and call it a dog but... Oh, what ever. ;)

Apparently, there is no killing in games, cartoons, books, videos, etc. Infact, movies and books are so boring because nothing really occurs in them. No eating, plot, dieing, running, chasing, detective work, etc. because there is no real person to eat, die, run, sleep, drive, etc.

Apparently, one can have all the (what I would call Satanic) movies they want as their is no real satan, killers, cults, murdereres, etc. because it is a movie. We can watch movies about killing people and rape and incest etc. because that is all it is. Just a movie and not real...

Truth be told. I dont even know how to make this any more clear. It is in God's hands now and always was.

The fact that I see is that very few people, and I am not trying to toot my own horn here, but very few people will ever acknowledge that something they do, that they want to do, that others may not see as sin, and that they dont want to stop, is a sin. Even people not of God agree murder is bad. But people not of God 'may' not have a problem with violent games. Only some people of God do.

I have no problem seeing it for what it is. Someday I hope to be free of it. But right now it is a sin. And low on the list of my personal sins.

Peace.

To me, its a game. Plain and simple. For pure entertainment, enjoyment. CS or any game in which a goal is to eliminate the opposition is not killing. Killing involves taking a life and if you equate what you are doing on the computer monitor to actually taking a life, then may I suggest you seek professional help to deal with your inability to judge reality from fantasy. Maybe, you should turn yourself in at the local police station, you are after all, killing people right?

So there is no Fantasy that you are forbidden?

I think the quote you're thinking of is "You can call a horse's tail a leg, but that doesn't make it a leg." You might be thinking of another quote, so I could be wrong. But I would say this quote here is support for playing games like CS. Just because in the game it's called killing doesn't mean it's killing. Just because you have a kill count and whatnot doesn't mean it's actually a count of how many people you've really killed.

Why would you be forbidden a fantasy? Hello - thought police!

Acting on a fantasy that is immoral, on the other hand, would be a very bad thing.

I was under the impression that all sins were equal. A sin is a sin, no?

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
