So I've been receiving these sporadic phone calls from "Windows Technical Support" telling me all about the terrible viruses I have on my system. The whole thing is clearly a scam (well-defined on other sites). I played along for 45 minutes today, finally declining to download the software to allow them to control my computer. After about 40 minutes of playing as stupid as I could (trying to be that person that makes phone support a thing I hate in my profession) I finally let them know I am an IT professional and I was fully aware of the bologna they there trying to sell. I asked him how he manages to sleep at night after scamming people all day. He attempted to stay in character for a couple minutes before finally issuing threats against me and my family (obviously something that a Microsoft employee would do, right?). I hung up shortly thereafter.
I figured, by stringing them along, I was keeping them from calling someone else and attempting to scam them.
Am I the only one getting calls from these guys every couple weeks?
