Ok so I just got my new verizon modem, etc. and its a modem with a wireless router on it. so it replaces my nice LINKSYS WRT54G, but i was wondering if there was a way to set it up as a wireless access point across the house so we have good coverage all over?

Depends on the version. There are like 14 revisions of router out now. If it is compatible then I would install DD-WRT, it supports wireless bridging. I have 2 WRT54GS routers, one serving wireless, the other connecting 3 computers to the wireless. It functions flawlessly in that aspect, and works great where a PCI card would disconnect left and right.

I second VK's recommendation for DD-WRT. I'm using two WRT54GL routers running DD-WRT v24. One acts as a wireless router; the other acts as a repeating bridge. My signal strength is now greatly improved in the far rooms of the house.

turn off everything on the verizon modem except the modem part and use your wrt..the verizon router/modem combos have custom irmwares that aren't kept up to date very well and aren't easily used with third party firmware. If you do a custom flash and it dies VZ will happily charge you an exhorbitant price to replace it.

I wouldn't recommend using DD-WRT on your Verizon modem/router, but I would recommend it for use on your WRT54G.

True, there's always the risk of bricking a router, but if you read, re-read, and read the instructions a third time and follow them exactly, there's very little chance of bricking hardware.

This is very true...I used to use verizon, I will not touch them with a 10 foot pole now...
