This financial mess isn't a true emergency.

no..the free markets should be allowed to work this out on it's own...plus they have known about this for months..they just waited for it to balloon. In addition folks like myself have been warning about this for over a year now..that coupled with the Fed's goosing of the markets for over a decade..it was bound to happen. This is a huge fraud..hit the blog again I have more links for you.

I agree with you HCS. Imagine what real people could have done with that money. My dad and I did some quick math and figured that of that 700 Billion... You could have given every working American 15 grand I think it was...

People are growing lax and stupid as they beleive more and more of what the government says.

Though it must come to pass. It just shows Jesus is coming back sooner. ^^

every american like $3000, or every household like $6000... (according to Time). We need to stop trying to increase government.

The government is going to have to start listening to it's people, or like all other countries it will face a reboot. Reboots only come by force.

I agree Tim. People are getting lazy and want the government to bail them out of the mess they create themselves. Personally I think we may be heading for a reboot... >.>

I wish we could go back to reading and following the constitution...

That would require us to get the old fogies out of Congress, The Senate, the white house and the Supreme court.

Why in the world would wegive them a seat of power that allows the same person to pass laws and never have to abide by them?

We could always make the voters that voted for a politician take a poll that asks "did the politician do what voters truly wanted" If the answer comes out no, the person should never be allowed to do ANY public service, from washing a school toilet to higher positions..

also, if the answer is no, they should lose all their retirement pay, and benefits...

Enforced regulations upon the voter...is that constitutional?

No less constitutional than most of the things going on in our country today... this would atleast let the voters have a voice.

I suppose it could be an optional vote the same as voting for the official... then it would be constitutional...

it took me two or three reads to understand the statement.... to paraphrase (for my own understanding), you're saying that if the candidate doesn't do (or at least try to do) what they promise to do, then they can't hold public office again, correct?

Historical reference, GW Bush said, "No New Taxes" but then approved several. So he wouldn't have been eligible to run his second term?

frankly the past presidents at least back to carter should have been impeached for violating their oath of office.

durruck, not what they promise, in my opinion what they want is the least of importance.. they should be concerned with two things, and two things only..... What the constitution allows, and what the people under their jurisdiction WANT. Not what they think is best. they have the right to discuss with people, to try to win over a different opinion with people, but what the voters want is what politicians should vote.

Do you really think the majority of voters want to give 700 billion to different organizations? I don't, I haven't met anyone who does. Our politicians think they know what is best for us, they are going to baby our economy by screwing us. Let's evaluate what a politician should do in this voting process.

1. Taking money from taxes or federal coffers to release to private individuals is unconstitutional. So this would certainly fall under unconstitutional. http://www.constitutionparty.com/documents/Crockett_CPweb_.pdf read the Crockett story for clarification.

2. As mentioned a majority of people are totally against the bailout, so they should vote as the people want.

Now as the majority of republicans leave office (I'm a republican, but voters are screaming change at any cost, thats another problem.); we should be asked what we thought about those politicians. I should be able to vote on my congressman and senators, president, governor, mayor, state legislators..etc.etc...etc... If a overwhelming majority say the politicians didn't follow those two rules, then they should be banned from public offices or government payroll. As I mentioned before they shouldn't be allowed to work in a school cleaning. If they abuse the trust of the people, and worse abuse the blood of the people that died for our constitution, then they aren't worthy of my child's toilet.

Further back hes.. further back.... other presidents for sure : Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Kennedy... etc..etc...

At least since the civil war, the federal government has rewritten the constitution to allow for federalism, and the eventual merge into socialism.
Before the civil war the states had more power than the federal government.

I doubt anyone can argue that we are heading to socialism.. From my local city/state owned utilities, to the recent federal purchases of large banks...

Its all in the Bible gents. End of the world. End of time. :)

Dang it, Now I need to brush up on Revelation and such again...

Our country is decaying. Slowly rotting and stepping away from what the founding fathers planned.

Imagine how the country would be if we still followed Biblical principles like 2 Thessalonians 3:10
* 10.
* For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

Just that one verse could change half the economy. If we followed it.

the worst part is that some people cite the Bible as the basis for the welfare system in it's current form. However, the Bible told the farmers to leave some of the stuff at the edge of the fields for the poor... but they still had to come get the food. They still had to put forth even a little effort. It wasn't brought to them every month coupled with a bonus to pay their temple taxes...money for a donkey, or enough for a few bottles of wine.
