Introduction and Questions

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Rob, and I am 34/m and live in Ontario, Canada. I live in a small town, and there isn't much chance for me to meet Christian gamers, so I thought I would try online!

I don't like the use of magic in games. One game that had potential was "The Minstrel's Song" by Jonathan Hayward. It is a "roguelike" which was based on a Christian world that Mr. Hayward made up! Unfortunately, it had too many bugs and wasn't refined enough. I had to run VMware and use Fedora Core to get it to run! I am looking for Christian muds, or rpgs without magic or psychic powers which could be Christian or non-Christian. Science fiction rpgs without psychic powers would suit me well. I don't mind paying for them. Suggestions are definitely welcome, because Christmas is just around the corner!

I think Civ 4: Colonization is a good game, but it requires me to do too much micromanaging to play properly online! I also have played the Sim City series, including Simcity 4, and I am going to get around to playing "City Life" sometime. Also, I like 4x space strategy games, such as the Master of Orion series (especially MOO 2) and Galactic Civilization 2. I have played games like Imperialism 1 and imperialism 2, but they are older.

I have never tried a pbem game, but am willing to try one if it is an rpg with a Christian theme.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks

Rob

Firstly, welcome nice to meet you.

Second, with a little searching here and in both the WOW and GW forums you will find a heap of discussions on magic in games as a chrisitian. Sounds like you have a thought out position on this but you might find the discussions interesting. In terms of RPGs I guess Lord of the Rings Online might be worth a look. Loads of magic but all in Tolkins who was a strong christian and wrote in light of that. That is all I can think of of the top of my head. RPGs withou magic is tough but I was thinking Stalker and Dues Ex may not have a lot. Dont know as I have never played them but they dont look magicy.

Welcome to the CGA!!!!! I need some of that in game magic, like poof, hold them baddies still so my slow ol x hair can catch up!
CS. 1.6

Welcome again and may God bless your endevours!

actually, tolkien never refers to gandalf's powers as magic in the lotr... So, lotro may be a very good option.

Thanks

Thank you for the suggestions. I actually own Imperium Galactica (not sure if it is the 2nd one, though). I am more into TBS games, though, but Sins of a Solar Empire might be okay. I could download the demo. I think that Fallout 3 might have unsuitable content, but I should check out the rating.

Wow, I think that's the first time I've ever seen someone use the term "4X" on the forums. Reminds me of my days playing Starflight on the Sega Genesis. Good times, good times.

Welcome to the forums. :D

4X is like a really slow version of RTS ;). It stands for xplore, xpand, xploite and xterminate. Basically Civ is a 4x game and sins of a solar is sort of a 4x game.
