Barriers and Bypasses

Tek7 (Legacy)

CGA & ToJ President
My fingers are already a little cramped from typing up the first Barriers and Bypasses thread, so I'll try to keep this one brief.

As with the post on the Christian Gamers Alliance forum, I have decided to clearly state what tasks I will and will not take on as I consider the future of Tribe of Judah.

- Tribe of Judah will not be established as a non-profit organization until we have the necessary staff in place and dedicated to set up and maintain such an entity. I believe Plankeye can fill you in on the amount of work necessary to do so. Please note that the Sponsor Information Package Project will not proceed until we have our NPO status. We will also be unable to rent any more game servers unless they are donated by members. NPO status is essential to ToJ's future growth.

- No new chapters will be established unless they are first fully staffed. If I conclude that there is insufficient activity within a chapter within the first month of its establishment, it will be set as inactive.

- Tribe of Judah will not be forming a Natural Selection competition team unless someone undertakes all responsibility involved in such an endeavor. (Ouch, that one stings.)

- The same goes for all other competition teams, including one for Unreal Tournament 2004: Onslaught.

- The following chapters will be shut down in the next 30 days if not "revived:" Quake 3, Battlefield 1942, Age of Kings, Jedi Knight II, Medal of Honor, Neverwinter Nights, Tetrinet.

- I will not be designing new graphics for our online store products.

- I will not be revising the Tribe of Judah charter. I would like to pick this up at a later date, but for now, I would like Council members to look this document over, suggest changes, and edit it after I approve the changes.

I think that covers the first section nicely. Now, where would I like to see ToJ go in the coming months?

- More emphasis on Scripture and our common faith.
- More efforts toward "partnership" with parents of members.
- More encouragement for members to join and get involved with local churches.
- A solid Counter-Strike competition team that completes a full season of CAL.
- Growth in our Unreal Tournament chapter. The foundation is there and Shagz has taken the first few steps to forming an awesome community for UT players. This game is popular enough now that there's no reason this chapter shouldn't be growing exponentially.
- More members helping Plankeye build the ToJ web site.
- More initiative and responsibility among ToJ leadership. I trust the staff I've put into place. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. If you do, believe me, I'll let you know--but in an encouraging way.
- A full staff with no gaps whatsoever. Phew, wouldn't that be nice?
- More Council members and more activity among Council members.
- Regular activity in the Starcraft chapter. Sure, the game is seven years old, but it's still the best RTS out there. ToJ started as a Starcraft clan, so I have a special place for this chapter in my heart.
- More readiness to replace inactive staff and more members available and dedicated to serve as staff.

Phew. The list is already pretty long. Go ahead and start the discussion and I'll add on to the thread and reply soon.

EDIT: Almost forgot: If you're interested in taking on any of the responsibilities or projects listed in this post, please contact both me and Rizz via e-mail at tek7 AT toj DOT cc and rizz AT toj DOT cc.

I agree completely with more emphasis scripture and on living the life of Christ. It's all fine and dandy to talk about games and stuff, but let us remember that game "sk1llZ" will not get us to Heaven.

I don't post that often because most of the threads I see are just ramblings about games. Leads me to wonder if ToJ is still a Christian clan sometimes.

I'm sorry if that offends someone, but in the same vein, sometimes a good wake up call is needed.

we do have different forums...but what we need is more member participating...

here are couple of ideas i think should be looked into...

1.

here's a idea...how about we have small study groups that are led by different people at certain set times...people can join (which ever fits their schedule) and discuss...we could have weekly or monthly themes, books or bible text to go with it.

could use yahoo, msn that allows multiple ppl to join discussion or just create our own private chat...

2.
we also need a pastoral presence on these boards...it would be nice, so maybe we should encourage our pastor to visit our toj forums...

seeker exodus is a youth minister, there are a couple pastors in Tribforce i do believe also DoAC has a pastor or 2. i am a pastor in training

(going through Bible college right now )

Also Kidan i am sure if he wanted to could be a pastor. It is not about having someone here with the piece of paper. it is about having someone here witht he heart and knowledge to fall God's will.

I encourage everyone seeking a stronger Christian emphasis to go and listen to the message "Ten Shekels and a Shirt" by Paris Reidhead on Sermon Index.

It's life-changing, and if you want a wake-up call, this will do it.

I wouldn't mind seeing it become required listening for all clan staff (or members).

sealcomm here

I am a Pastor, even though im in Australia, but i love you all anyway. I just wish my ping was better so i could be a little more competitive....

Also tek can u pls resend me my password for the council...

i haven't been to vocal lately. But im in and out of the forums a couple of times a week.  Bible studies are cool, though i can never get the time/day differences together between here and there.... HA

Also i can post my notes from sermons somewhere if your interested?

I think these are all great ideas, but much like the real world, they will not run unless some one picks them up. And they won't get very far well unless people run with the runner.

As .se3ker. has mentioned, we already have other forums here at ToJ or the CGA for discussing religion/theology or for bible study, but they suffer due to lack of participation. And as sealcom and others have identified, there are already Pastors (or pastors in training or capable lay people) present within the ToJ, so it's not like we're a) going wanting for opportunity or resources to share and grow together in our faith and b) lacking in eclesiastical (sp?) leadership.

What we *are* lacking is a) players who are interested in/willing to/have time for virtual bible study or fellowship and b) people willing to fill key staff positions in the different clans in order to give them more structure, leadership and dare I say a vision for the chapter, plus players willing to be dedicated to that vision. We're in short supply in both those areas, as Tek has mentioned.

I believe that the upcoming LAN/GPN Party-convention (Local Area Network/Global Prayer Network?) will go a long ways to bringing the ToJ out of the virtual world and into the "real" world, where it will be concrete and start to have a living, breathing presence. I also believe that Tek's initiative to start partnering with the parents of ToJ members, and may I suggest partnering with "bricks and mortar" churches as well will also help get ToJ out of the ethereal and into the corporeal.

Why does ToJ need those anchors? Because it makes the ToJ more real, and people will be more dedicated and more interested in something that actually has a presence in the real world, then just coming here, tuning in for a few games, then dropping out without really giving back to clan. Plus, it helps bring in *more* players, and hopefully players (and non-players) who believe that there is potential here for God's work to be done. Who knows: could the days of "all in good fun" church pastor vs church pastor 1 on 1 UT2004 tournaments to raise money for AIDS in Africa be too far ahead of us? I'm only half-joking.

But then, after all that, what does the ToJ look like? Sermon notes posted in a forum? Bible studies over teamspeak? The Dark Age of Camelot clan did something interesting I think, something about doing a baptism service for their in-game characters in a river somewhere in the game world. *That's* some innovative thinking, though to some it may sound strange.

Anyways, I don't know what happens after that, just how the ToJ will help it's members grow spiritually, or at least how to make our shared faith more a part of the clan. I do believe though, that in order to get there, ToJ needs to become a little more "real life", and it definitely needs a core group of really dedicated people, or else a very large network of marginally dedicated people who can at least be counted on to do one small job for the clan.

Otherwise, we're just a collection of <tag>names on the web joined together by a common religion but we're not really *doing* anything other than playing games.

My three cents canadian....which is about two cents american.

and i not sure but i think tribforce needs to be a liitle more out in cga you know maybe they are but i havnt seen anything frome them

tell them not us. about Trib

the WC3 Group was doing a weekly Bible study. then i dropped the ball on it. We regulary had 5-8 people there on battle net for the studies.

Yea, but it's good to know that people are at least doing it, it encourages other to follow suit in their own clans if they feel so moved to do so. And some more interclan news and information sharing would be a good thing, in my mind. The right hand would like to know what the left hand is up to from time to time.

Jfreak i got the Idea from DoAC. i knew that they were doing it i thought it would be cool so i started one up. nothing is so say that you can not do it on the CS server. infact it may be ezer. turn on all talk and let one person speak.

Or just all meet in a channel in mIRC(which i dont use) or an AIM/MSN channel. The only thing stopping the Bible study is people not stepping up who are spiritually mature and are looked to, to lead this program. Hopefully more of these details can be hashed out at CGA convetion.

Edit

As far as TribForce goes. i know that G_P plays with them occassionally since he is from canada and so are they. Also if you want to interact with them just go into their forums and start posting away. maybe join their CS server sometimes when you see its like 2-3 people. I have gone on there and had some crazy fun playing even though i will ping horribly I am there, showing my support for Tribforce and helping to populate the server.

ok thanks about the tribforce thing and about the all talk on cs server or we could do teamspeak how hard is that i dont know but all talk sounds cool on cs server we could do that on toj2 or something or tfc that would be cool be it would depend on the amount of players and the wc3 is sweet i think it shows maturity in the communtiy to do such stuff gj. so im sure we will get junk  hacked out at the convention

i love the idea of using a gaming server.

currently my mic isn't working. It's not my mic, it's my computer. There is something weird going on, but im getting a new mboard this week, so hopefully that will change.

I would love to be a part of that.

We just need to identify what topics to hit off on. Maybe HOW to share the gospel, or start from the word about 'why' we should etc.
