iPod Price Drop and More

Apple updated its iPod line yesterday:

- The 30 GB iPod dropped from $299 to $249
- Apple bumped the 60 GB model to 80 GB
- Both models have brighter screens, longer battery life
- All existing and new iPod 5G can also play games like Bejeweled, Zuma, Mini Golf, Tetris, Pac-Man (among others) for $4.99 off the iTunes Store

- The iPod nano got an upgrade, available in 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB models (with the same pricing)
- Available in five different colors
- Thinner, brighter, and compatible with Nike + iPod

- The iPod shuffle was completely reworked as well, see the iPod shuffle site for a size comparison.

So, some pretty neat updates for iPod owners.

Also, iTunes was updated to iTunes 7. There are so many great features, it's hard for me to write them all out, but here are a few big ones:

- CoverFlow View. No explanation necessary
- It gets missing album art for you for free
- It can back up your library (including purchased music) with ease
- Video playback is much, MUCH improved
- Downloaded videos are now in 640x480 instead of 320x240 (or whatever it was)

This is probably the best iTunes update yet. Get it here.

Also, Apple announced iTV. It's not on Apple's website yet, but read the quick synopsis on Wikipedia.

Here's a link to the Apple Store, in case anyone's interested in "checking prices". :D

(To those who do these things [vibrokatana], please do not de-rail this thread by putting an anti-Mac or anti-PC slant on it. All topics discussed in this post PC and Mac compatible.)

iTV looks promising depending on how they develop it. Most likely it will end up integrating with itunes (bad).

the missing artwork feature was there before. I hope they are playing the downloaded videos at their native res instead of blowing it up, not much of a feature.

why would I slam apple, I own one also :P

Yeah, I agree. They seem to be going in the right direction with it.

It doesn't just integrate into iTunes, but the computer will just act as a server. Probably similar to Front Row, I imagine.

Negative. Not without a third party app.

You can play them in the native res, or blow them up to full screen. Both of which looks really great, since Apple does such a good job with scaling.

I know... it was just a preventative measure to keep you from saying "I can do that with MythTV" or something similar. *lol*

weird I hate how itunes always place the artwork on my ipod even tho I only use the mp3s I rip using grip.

it doesnt matter how well you scale it, 320xwhatever looks horrid at 1440x900 :P

I really like the new shuffle. Now I just have to remember not to put in in the wash, like I did my SD card and my thumbdrives.

I once put my mp3 player (not iPod) into the wash, and it still works!

Anyway, I want to check out getting an iPod now that they're cheaper.

Ipod = yucky!!!!!

Creative Zen = more features for a considerably less price :) (even after all the ipod price drops, the creative zen is still considerably less expensive)

but that's just my two cents...

Creative Zen

That's what I'll be getting when I upgrade. A Creative Zen Vision: M. Looks very sharp. BUT, I'm going to wait until my piece of crap Dell Digital Jukebox completely dies. Right now, when I press the menu button it pauses the song. Just a minor annoyance :p

ive dropped a pny jump drive and a scandisk cruser into the wash and they both survived, oh and my ps2 memory card too
