Jethro to Moses: Dude, get some help

Tek7 (Legacy)

CGA & ToJ President
Check it out, y'all, from Exodus 18:
The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, "What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?"

15 Moses answered him, "Because the people come to me to seek God's will. 16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God's decrees and laws."

17 Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him. 20 Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform. 21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied."

24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. 25 He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 26 They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.
As many of you may have picked up from my recent requests for prayer regarding my and my wife's finances, I'm going through a stressful season in my life. I can't dedicate as much time to Tribe of Judah as I would like. And in light of recent events, I think it's wise for me to start appointing more staff and to delegate more responsibility.

A little more venting and I'll get to the main point of this post, promise:

I'm 26 now. I've been leading Tribe of Judah for over seven years. I'm married. I work a part-time job during the day. I write articles for a local newspaper. I'm finally getting back to my writing, after slacking for so long. I have a few ideas for some short films and it's heavy on my heart to start setting them to paper.

In short, I'm finding more and more of my life outside the computer. I still love ToJ, and I'm still going to lead it, but it's plain to see that I need more help if I'm going to keep on truckin' without getting a flat.

Okay, now the main point:

I've got a solid staff for handling the day-to-day operations of ToJ. We've got some great chapters, we (and by "we" I mean astrod00d) handle member applications quickly, and our new web site, courtesy of SirThom, is going to be awesome sauce. We've got the basics covered. What we are lacking are staff members to develop new chapters, further develop ministry efforts, and handle conflicts when they arise.

Toward that end, I have a few "rough sketch" ideas for new staff positions:

  • Conflict Mediator. Detects and puts out fires before they start. If necessary, brings the Fire Truck of Mediation (+5 resistance against Fire) to flame wars. In short, he or she helps people work things out.
  • Staff Manager. Right now, when a person joins ToJ staff, it adds about six or seven items to my tasklist. The Staff Manager would be in charge of all that stuff, so I could just point to somebody, say, "Make 'em staff!" and the Staff Manager does the rest. This would help me get more staff in place more quickly and also free up more time for other endeavors.
  • New Chapter Researcher. Lame name, I know, but I'll probably change it. This person would handle all the research involved in deciding which games get selected for new chapters.
  • Real-time Strategy Section Leader. I haven't forgotten about this one. I've just been sidetracked. For a few months.
So, there ya go. Some ideas. I want to make sure everyone knows where my heart is. I definitely want to see ToJ expand into other games, and I certainly want to see someone else take care of internal conflicts when they arise.

You have done a fantastic job Tek and I am proud to recommed ToJ to my peers. I will pray that God provides the perfect people for these positions and blesses ToJ with many more years of service.

Thanks for having us Christian gamers in your heart and providing chapters with support and direction.

I will be praying for you, definately a challenging time for many of us. I've seen so many people drop from what they do best because of conflicts and troubles.

I am trying to limit my gaming to exclusively fps as I go into college next month as they take up the least amount of time. I am purposly only running linux on my desktop and osx on my laptop to try and limit the ability to play. It is a pain after you have the shelter of fun and friends that you have within a christian clan, to move on.

Genesis1315 has offered to help mediate conflicts within Tribe of Judah. Since Genesis is not a member of ToJ, she can remain an unbiased third party.

As President of CGA, I'm appointing her as "Conflict Mediator" (cooler title pending). As President of ToJ, I'll likely request her help in resolving conflicts within ToJ in the future.

Additional staff member: Newsletter Manager/Editor? I know this is a pet-project for you, Tek, that you'd like to see get off the ground.

Yes! Thanks for the reminder, Shagz. I still have a page on my notepad that says "Tribe of Judah Newsletter, March 2006."

Im doing mssql and coldfusion for my summer job right now, I learned sql with oracle and have worked with mysql quite a bit.

I would love to be a staff member, but I am 24 and just ended 5 years of youth ministry and am trying to stay out of ministry to receive healing and rest. What I can do, is I'll be praying for the right people to be called and step into these positions. I'll also be praying for your strength and finances! "I can do all things through christ who gives me strength." Phippians 4:13 "Misfortune pursues the sinner, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous." Proverbs 13:21

If you live in the United States and would be interested in a "behind the scenes" staff position, you might be a good fit for Treasurer.
