T-Minus One hour

Personally I've always thought double elimination setups are much more fair. Sometimes the 2nd best team ends up getting third and vice versa, but all in all it tends to work out better. That said...with 12 teams and country vs. country competition happening only once every 4 years, it's very difficult to seed people and give some byes...so I can understand round robin.

Honestly, I think the fairest way to do things is that if you get beat by a team in the finals you had beaten earlier, you play a third game.

We have no idea what things would be like if Canada won the exhibition game and the USA the Gold medal game. I suspect strongly though, that the sediments from the American posters would be more along the lines of how the USA beat Canada at her game and less along the lines of there should have been a third game.

I expect you're right, although I would still think fair is fair. And if the reverse had happened, I would imagine that Canadians would be very much for a third game. ;)

I think us having to beat Russia in order to get to you for the rematch was reward enough for the first game. By the way, we steamrolled them.

Yeah, I didn't watch that game, but I heard there wasn't much competition. IlyaKovalchuk and Nabokov had bad nights.

However, as an American I was rooting for USA and hoping they would pull through, but I'm content with the Canadian win. Never mind that my Sharks pulled 4 Gold medals out of it, but I think the Canadians enjoyed their victories more than America would have. No it was not another miracle on ice team, and no there will NEVER be another one, however this was a huge game for American hockey and Zach Parise boosted American interest in hockey.

I feel that if the US won, American's would have taunted Canada that we beat them at their own game, instead of taking the role we took: being the underdogs and making Canada have a run for their money. Taunting Canada with our win, I feel, would have diminished the sudden interest that we are now enjoying here in the States. By loosing a close game like it was that I feel inspired more young American boys and girls to get out there and try hockey.

QFT

Now to get the women around the world wanting to compete in hockey so it is not always Canada vs the USA.

Anyway, the GM of the Calgary Flames basically said that the Gold medal game was a testament to the success of the Canadian and American hockey programs. And I agree. And I also agree with many Canadian pundits who have said that the better team may well have won the silver medal.

And by no means was the silver medal simply handed to the US team. You had to beat Finland to do it, which is not a walk over team. The 6 - 1 blow out shows the USA teams heart and drive to win. Kudo's.
