Does the Gmaing World have the chutpah to stop this?

With all the snotty nosed little kids (if they are not snotty nosed, we are fine) involved in mw2, this game could become a retail Combat Arms. That would truly be horrible. In Combat Arms, if your good, you get kicked every round for hacking.

Well I dont know about pc version but 360 version is awesome. I was telling ewok, i played it all day yesterday and left to go to school i was ranked 612,213rd in kills and when i got home my rank shifted to 1,323,213rd that was in 3 hours so online players almost doubled! Now if you look at that as people yes some might be playing on different tags but even then that would be around $75 million the first day of release i toook off about $4 million for people playing on same copy. If we go by totals alone without concidering duplicates that would be $79,326,619 and that is 360 version alone.

$500 million does not seem even the least bit possible. Figure 5 gaming systems? Ps3, 360, wii, pc and a ds takeoff? Just one system on openeing day almost hit the $100 million dollar mark.

Hosted a game last night some features are not well thought out but I think this is one company that pays attention to their customers on some fronts so possibilities will be open for adjustments. I personally will pray for clarity for them and to pray they add more features for admins/game hosts for ease of use and for friendly play.

No one is saying it wont sell or that it's a bad game. The people who are PC gamers are upset because they got the shaft.

From the interview in the opening post:
Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

This is the amount of work that went into the PC version: you are given the ability to use a mouse, to use text chat, and to adjust graphical settings. Are your fears now put to rest?

Infinity Ward "customized" the game so that PC users can use their mouse, utilize text chat and change the graphical settings.

All they basically did was make it so that PC gamers could play the game (aka the bare minimum).

I completely agree with Shadetaker's statement:

Begone foul heretic!

Seriously though, I for one see absolutely no appeal in being thrown into games with every random idiot on the internet. Dedicated servers provide a place to play with a consistent group or type of players, and allow you to police the environment in ways that matchmade listen servers never will.

As for mods, the simple fact is that developers aren't always going to make the best decisions (TF2 crits anyone?). Players should be allowed to shape their own experiences. I for one don't always enjoy them, all those permutations of CS:S for instance, but no developer should have such hubris as to imagine that their great work is beyond all improvement.

On top of all that, the stupid thing is there's absolutely no reason why they couldn't have allowed for both. So what if there's "division of the player base"? Wouldn't it have been better for them to make both groups happy rather than to gut integral functionality and tell us that the result is not only going to be better, but worth an extra $10 on the price tag?

And, for those who are wondering what I'm wondering... here's your answer:
From Merriam-Webster.com said:
Main Entry: hu·bris
Pronunciation: \ˈhyü-brəs\
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek hybris
Date: 1884
: exaggerated pride or self-confidence

I wonder how many times its been used so far... it's pretty fitting as well.

Edit: I love this!

Umm doesn't it not come out on Steam for another day or 2?
I thought I remembered seeing a Steam ad for it with a 11/10/09 release date, but it seems I was confusing the Steam ad with a TV ad for the 360/PS3 version. I also read that a cracked version of the PC game was already available on torrents, so I thought it had been released already.

Now it makes a little more sense. I figured I'd see one or two people on my Steam friends list playing MW2, even if none of them were wearing a ToJ tag.

Okay people, here is why PC gamers want dedicated servers.

Look at this brilliance of IW.net matchmaking:

With a dedicated server, that horrible lag can be avoided altogether.

And hey, the game has already been successfully hacked before the Steam unlock.

With a dedicated server, a server admin can remove that hacker within seconds.

BTW, that hack video was originally on Youtube, but IW/Activision took it down as soon as they could.

I am not holding my breath on IW attempting to fix their own mess at this point.

Wow, looks like the predictions are coming true.

According to internal figures released by Activision, opening day sales for its heavily-anticipated game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 smashed records, generating $310 million in 24 hours in North America and the U.K. to become the "the biggest launch in history across all forms of entertainment."

Xbox Live service just hit a new record of 2 million simultaneous players.

ROFL !! so how is that boycott going for you all? (referring to those in the pic)
It honestly does not surprise me. In fact, I expected that.

In general, gamers notoriously have little to no willpower when it comes to their hobby, and because of that, it emboldens developers like Infinity Ward and publishers like Activision to give condescending remarks to PC gamers and make a sub-par port for them on the PC.

The original question - can the gaming world stop this?

$500 million in sales says - no - we can't. It is a done deal. I doubt they will even consider the needs of the PC users when they can make half a billion not caring.

Three comments:

1. Please, please, post that picture on Failblog.

2. If the truth is that IW is totally out of line and out of the loop, they will tank. Fast. If not, they'll survive.

3. The fact is that the age of the hardcore gamer is over. If Nike decided they'd only sell their shoes and make their shoes for pro athletes, they'd lose a lot of their sales. Probably 90%. In the new economy (lol,) the place for the hardcore gamer is on TV and in competitive events. There's simply way more non-hardcore gamers today than there are hardcore gamers. Every week I hear people complain, for example, that Blizzard is catering to casual gamers. But what they don't understand is that Blizzard has created a huge new economy of former non-gamers who are now gamers. Those people vastly outnumber the hardcore. It would be dumb to cater to the small slice of uber-gamers in ways other than contests of the elite.

Back when I was a child, computer gamers were almost exclusively young- to middle-aged males of a certain level of intelligence, a particular kind of work-life, and a particular lack of physical activity: smart couch potatoes, often unemployed; geeks.

Right now, however, we're seeing those rules break down. In college, I think every single one of the members of the sports teams were avid gamers. In fact, 80% of my classmates, both male and female, young and old, from all walks of life, were gamers. Less than five of them are hard-core. So suddenly the gamers are different than they used to be. The average gamer isn't hardcore anymore.

Tell ya what though, the game is very enjoyable. Don't knock it till ya try it. :p

First half of the single player isn't that much of a change from the first game, got me kinda disappointed. It begins to ramp up, throws in a few sweet plot twists, and felt like The Rock at a few points. It's a roller coaster all right. :p

Spec Ops is unique and varied with missions, only played a few with my younger brother. The one player as helicopter gunner + 2nd player buddy on the ground was a pretty sweet level for sure. :)

Multiplayer felt tighter, cleaner, and fresher. Gone are the days of triple frag grenade spam and juggernaut (which is now a timed deathstreak). With so many cool alternatives (sticky grenade, respawn flare, insta-kill throwing knife which you can pick up from the dead body, blast helmet good against explosives), it's hard for me to choose a normal frag grenade. The "cheaper" perks like Last Stand or Martyrdom (also a deathstreak now) are WAY further in the levels. The ability to shoot down UAVs (which I'm notorious for now ;P) is so much fun and rewarding. I was burned out on the PC's COD4/WaW's online, but here, I can feel the changes are for the better and compel me to play without feeling like a nub. Only issue I had was when the host was lagging, the whole server felt it. Or team being unbalanced half-way through. Otherwise, the matchmaking is quick and snappy. No qualms here, folks. If you're sucking at the game (like I was getting used to the controls), these deathstreaks are a great idea. Helps me get back in the game without feeling frustrated. Oh, some of the 30~50 weapons can even have a heartbeat monitor, good against those crafty ninjas. ;)

Then again, this is for the PS3 version. I wouldn't touch the PC one with a 10 foot corndog (or even a breakfast one for that matter). Was tired of hackers and aimbots all the time. :(

I didn't like the WaW demo on the PS3. Well then again I hated in on PC also, so no surprise there. You could easily rename WaW to "AVOID GRENADE INDICATORS" and you would summarize most of the game.

Rofl, that's what I HATED about game. Anything past "Regular" difficulty was the Japanese and Nazi throwing grenades at you every 5~7 seconds. How was that fun? -_-

I don't think one or two companies will inadvertently kill gaming for PC gamers. If they continually don't offer what PC gamers want, then people just wont buy it. I would not be at all surprised if ToJ or CGA doesn't start up a COD:MW2 because of what it lacks.

I have not bought it and I am certainly not buying it in the future!
